Dear Students,
As we wrap up classes and pack up our things for the year, we would like to share a few ways to support our fellow Lions and the surrounding community, while considering our impact on the environment. Through an initiative we are calling, “Reduce for Good Use”, we present you with two opportunities to donate food, clothing, hygiene products, books, e-waste, and furniture, in place of discarding these useful items.
For All Students:
We will be collecting non-perishable food products, gently used clothing, unused hygiene products, books, and e-waste on campus. Consider dropping off these items on Friday, May 10th from 10am – 2pm in Lot 6 (across from Phelps and Hausdoerffer). We will have a photo station, Jersey Mike’s subs, along with a number of giveaways! Please see the attached graphic for more information. Between today and Friday, May 10th, these items can also be dropped off in donation boxes found in Centennial, Cromwell, Decker, Eickhoff, Hausdoerffer, New Residence, Phelps, and Travers & Wolfe Halls. These items will be donated to The Shop, English Department (books), and local nonprofits.
For Off-Campus Students:
For the third consecutive year, we are partnering with HomeFront, a local homelessness prevention agency, to collect lightly used furniture that will be donated to families in need of temporary and permanent housing. HomeFront is willing to pick-up select mattresses, bed frames, loveseats, dressers, and more within Ewing Township. Please see the attached flyer for specifications on what they will accept and how to sign up for a pick-up between May 22nd-24th. As you move out, help families move in! (Text from flyer is here: Do you have the following pieces of furniture that you are trying to get rid of at the end of the school year when you move out? Twin, full, and queen mattresses, box springs, and metal bed frames. Loveseats, ideally 55-60″, with a maximum of 75″ outer arm to outer arm. Small dressers at or close to 3′ wide by 4.5′ tall. Small kitchen tables and chairs, can be round or square at 3′ wide or rectangular tables maximum 5′ long. No other furniture items can be accepted than those listed. Head over to this website to sign up by May 19th, https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080F4EA4A728A7FA7-49196384-tcnj?utm_source=qrcode . When filling out the signup you will need to include a description of the items and their associated dimensions. A HomeFront employee will contact you for collection, which will be May 22, 23, and 24th. If the items do not fit the listed dimensions or if they are damaged, HomeFront may not be able to accept the items upon pick-up.)
As a reminder to our off-campus students, Ewing Township allows only three bulk items to be left out on your regular trash collection day. Instead of leaving too much at the curb, please consider if HomeFront would be able to reuse it instead!
We would like to thank Residence Life & Education and the Center for Community Engagement for their ongoing support! Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions, and thank you in advance for your consideration.
